ShikaTayu (鹿太夫 ShikaTayu), is the term used to refer to the romantic relationship between Shikamaru Nara and Tayuya.

Tayuya prepares to attack.
Tayuya was a member of the Sound Four who were tasked to bring Sasuke Uchiha to Orochimaru. Shikamaru was the captain of a team from Konoha formed to return Sasuke home. When it came time to fight individually, Shikamaru and Tayuya faced off.
Shikamaru has Tayuya.
The fight would go back and forth with Tayuya holding the advantage, only to see it countered by Shikamaru's unrivaled intelligence. During the fight, they would both taunt each other. Tayuya would call Shikamaru trash for getting his teammates killed (which she assumed to have happened). While Shikamaru would mock Tayuya's arrogance and the fact that he was smarter than her. At one point, they even seemed to gain some begrudging respect for one another.
The fight ended when Shikamaru lured Tayuya into a complex trap and appeared to finish her off, only to be thwarted by the power of her level two curse seal. This is when Temari arrived to rescue Shikamaru and take the fight to Tayuya.

Shikamaru sees Tayuya once again.
Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation[]
During the Fourth Great Shinobi War, Kabuto resurrected the Sound Four. Tayuya renewed her rivalry with Shikamaru, only to be quickly defeated by an older and stronger Shikamaru.
"She must be a good Shogi player" - Shikamaru smiles.

Among The Fans[]
ShikaTayu is a rivalry couple that gained popularity when they fought. It has lost some popularity after Tayuya's death, but still has some fans based on their fight and the way they look together. Others like that Tayuya is an even more extreme tsundere character for Shikamaru than Temari or Ino. Given their connection, it is a strong rival pairing of ShikaTema and ShikaIno.
